Autonomy: a customizable system

When it comes to tactile floor communication systems, to this day there are not yet unique, international regulations available. In Europe, great attention is given to the simplicity of message, using just two basic signals. In Italy, this approach is supported by some associations for the blind and the visually impaired while others would prefer a more articulated system, with more codes and information. In some countries there is, on the contrary, a very specific regulation that provides specific characteristics of the textures and their thickness to be used inside tactile paths.

The Autonomy system allows the two base codes accepted at European level (the straight-ahead code and the stop/danger code) to exist alongside with a more articulated system, in which more information can be added. Highly versatile and customizable, Autonomy was conceived to respond to the very specific needs of the different countries in terms of safety and independence for the blind and the visually impaired.
