TACTILE FLOORING
For many years Marazzi has striven to promote better accessibility, in the sense of overcoming architectural and urban barriers so as to ensure safe, easy access to places, and no compulsory need for assistance. To give blind people or the visually impaired greater autonomy of movement, Marazzi has come up with Autonomy: a simple system of tactile floor signs integrated in ceramic tiles. Each tile has an embossed surface that transmits information in a clear, direct way. The textures are designed to be clearly perceptible to the foot and to take advantage of contact with walking sticks, while the colours and colour contrasts can be identified by the visually impaired.
Autonomy is the result of collaboration with the Milan-based firm Studio & Partners, associations that represent the visually impaired, and representatives of the blind, who all played an active role in the project.
