The air, bathers and the surrounding environment (trees, insects, etc.) constantly add impurities to the Spa water. These impurities soil the water and become food for bacteria and algae. This is why it is necessary to remove them by means of a suitable fi ltering system. The floating particles are eliminated by making the water in the hot tub fl ow through a fi lter that can be one of two types: - Quartz sand - Synthetic fi bres (cartridges) Depending on the quality of the water, on how often the spa is used and on the quantity of impurities in the water, the fi lters tend to slowly clog up and become less efficient. In these conditions there is a progressive reduction of the quality of the filtered water and the Spa water may cloud over. This is a clear sign that the filter must be cleaned or replaced. Sand filters are cleaned by means of a backwash operation that requires specific technical expertise; occasionally (usually every 3-4 years, or when backwashing is required too often) the sand in the fi lter must be replaced. Cartridge filters are checked and cleaned depending on how the Spa is used, on the quality of the water and on many other factors. In any case it must be checked at least once a week. It can be cleaned using normal tap water if the filtered impurities are not too deeply embedded, or by using specific products if there are limescale deposits or oily substances. When the fi lter fabric shows signs of wear or when cleaning the filter does not restore its efficiency, it must be replaced.
