In 1935, Filippo Marazzi founded Marazzi Ceramiche in Sassuolo (Modena).
The first production plant, built using two parallel row of poplar trees as as the support structures, was called “cardboard factory“ due to the improvised nature of the structure.

The 50’s

Pietro Marazzi, Filippo’s son, introduced mechanization and undertook the first expansion of the plants.
The 60’s
Marazzi was the first company to cement important collaborative relationships with world famous architects and industrial designers. Gio Ponti designed the “Four Times Curve” tile for Marazzi, which was exhibited at the Triennial in Milan.
The 70’s
In 1974 Marazzi patented the single-firing process, (quick firing of body and glaze), which revolutionized ceramic tile production and establish itself as the most widely used production method in the world. Marazzi tiles bore the names of important international designers and architects (Biki, Forquet, Paco Rabanne).
The 80’s
Filippo Marazzi Jr. initiated a process of product diversification, vertical integration and internationalization - establishment of Marazzi Iberia (Spain) and American Marazzi Tile (Dallas, Texas, USA).
Introduction of the innovative Firestream manufacturing process – glazing on incandescent supports – which increases performance and markets of ceramic products. 
The 90’s
A development strategy is carried out in order to shore up the leadership position in the domestic Italian market while forging ahead with a policy of expansion on a worldwide level throughout important acquisitions – Ceramiche Ragno SpA in Italy – in the area of the core business (Spain, Italy, France and the US) – and in the areas complementary to ceramic tiles (sanitary fixtures – Italy, clay – Ukraine).
Further commercial offices were also opened in Japan, China, the Arab Emirates and the UK.
The 21st century
The Group acquires a clay quarry in Ukraine and begins the construction of a new manufacturing plant in Moscow. In 2005 the acquisition of Welor Kerama is completed: it’s the main tile-sector player in Russia with more than 100 direct points of sale throughout the country; production gets underway in the new Malino plant.
Constitution of the China Business Unit (2008); the expansion of the manufacturing facility in Dallas, Texas, USA (2008) is completed to double production capacity.
