Unexpected behavior between 4.x.x versions of MDBbootstrap

I have been trying to upgrade a project started last year that uses MDB 4.4.5 to the current, 4.17.0. I was shocked at the difference in the display. The only change was in the MDBbootstrap version. Both images below are using Bootstrap v.4.4.1 taken from your 4.17.0 download. Not only have the input text fields changed, but radio buttons and checkboxes have totally disappeared. Please explain. MDBbootstrap 4.4.5 MDBbootstrap 4.17.0
