Problem with tabs and pills - CSS failing

Hello I'm having a problem with proper rendering of the tabs/pills within an MVC/Bootstrap environment. I replicated it in the index file of the MDB package too. The pills seem to be rendering incorrectly, with borders and without fills/shadows. This is what the documentation tells me to expect: And this is what actually happens: I replicated it by taking the entire snippet of code from the http://mdbootstrap.com/components/tabs/ page, this one: http://pastebin.com/6x701DmA and pasting it within the "<!-- Start your project here-->" brackets in the index file, provided in mdb package.
