I'm looking for code examples of uploading a file in a "serverless" environment like firebase. It seems like formidable-serverless would support this but I don't see any examples in https://mdbootstrap.com/docs/angular/forms/file-input/ is there a tutorial on the firebase boilerplate?

As you may have noticed, we don't have any instructions regarding backend integration and this also applies to firebase. We will consider adding something like this in the future, maybe in the form of an article or a tutorial.
